International Workshop “Gas Flaring: Focus on Iraq“
Objective of this Workshop
Gas flaring is one of the most
challenging energy and environmental problems facing the world today. Gas flaring, the process of burning-off associated gas
from wells, hydrocarbon processing plants, or refineries, either as a means of
disposal or as a safety measure to relieve pressure, about 150 billion m3
of natural gas is flared around the world. Iraq was the world's second-worst
gas flaring nation after Russia in 2020, according to the World Bank. The World
Bank estimates around 17.374 billion m3 of gas from the Iraqi field
was flared in 2020.
The goal of this workshop is to
highlight the gas flaring system by discussing the principles of gas flaring, disposal of waste and excessive gases, types of gas flares, system component, and flare gas recovery
system.
